Steps leading up to an 30 meter (90 feet) high 'gnomon' which casts a giant shadow that moves 4 meters (12 feet) an hour and acts as a sun dial which is still accurate up to 1 second. It part of the Jantar Mantar astronomical complex built in by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1728. The complex is comprised of various structures that he used to measure the position of the stars, calculate eclipes and other heavenly movements. Jaipur. November 2004.
